Pragmora readies to launch Peace for the Congo campaign

In the summer of 2010, Pragmora will launch a new advocacy campaign, Peace for the Congo -- to help prevent further escalation of the conflict in the DR Congo and stablize the peace.

TV News Interview

Dr. Glenys Babcock, policy expert and Pragmora Executive Director, spoke with CTV's Canada AM news show about the potential impact of a proposed unilateral ceasefire in Sri Lanka.

Glenys offered insight into the significance of the Tamil Tigers' ceasefire declaration and the country's current humanitarian crisis. Watch the interview.

In-Country Research in Sri Lanka

Dr. Glenys Babcock, conducted in-depth interviews with a wide range of individuals and organisations with about resolving the Sri Lanka conflict.

She spoke at length with the country's Secretary of Defence, Gotabhaya Rajapakse, not only about the military's strategy for ending the conflict, but also about plans for stablising the peace post-conflict.

She also discussed conflict resolution, the humanitarian crisis and civil rights issues with a representative from the United Nations, senior policy analysts, academics, journalists, and international and local NGOs. She spoke with Sinhalese, Tamil, Christian and Muslim Sri Lankans, as well as with foreigners from half a dozen countries.

Planning Begins for Pragmora Peace Action Teams

Led by Miriam Bosiljevac, we are creating our first Pragmora Peace Action Teams. These university and community group swill meet monthly to learn more about conflicts around the world, discuss realistic non-violent options for resolving specific conflicts, and support Pragmora's advocacy campaigns. .



Apply to be a Research Associate

Pragmora is accepting applications for volunteer Research Associates.

We will select university students or recent graduates from around the world through a competitive application process.

Research Associates will likely have a degree in political science, international relations, international development or peace and conflict studies, although we welcome applications from students in all disciplines. Each Research Associate is expected to have personal experience with different cultures through travelling or living abroad and to have a track record of doing volunteer work. They will be passionate about resolving conflicts and building peace.

Research Associates conduct research on a specific conflict or post-conflict region and work with a team of international experts to help draft conflict briefing papers.
